A man in Bridlington is hoping to sell a pair of leather pants for thousands of pounds as he claims that they were worn as workwear trousers by Sir Paul McCartney when the Beatles took the stage in the early 1960s.

The gentleman claims that the trousers were given to him by Brain Epstein, the manager of the Beatles when he played in a jazz band at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club in the early 1960s. The garment in question is marked with the name Paul in pen and is the correct size to have fitted the musical legend. He hopes to sell them to one of the growing numbers of music museums. After all a jacket owned by George Harrison sold at auction in December 2012 for the princely sum of £110.450. A set of six signed photos recently sold for £9,400, and one set of autographs in an autograph book, from a 1963 concert in Llandudno, sold for £2.900 to show that the interest in this group just keeps growing year after year.

The current owner of the trousers, Mr Brian Hoggard, explained that he recently rediscovered the items while he was moving house. His Yorkshire Jazz Band was a regular act at the club between 1960 and 1961 and a little known band called The Beatles were their support act. He saw the trousers hung up in the dressing room one evening and Epstein said to take them as he was trying to get his group out of wearing leathers and into wearing suits. He didn’t think more of it at the time than great I’ve got myself a free pair of leather trousers.

Photos do exist and the trousers appear to match the style and design and are the correct waist and leg measurements so could these be Paul McCartney’s workwear trousers from his early days with the world’s most successful group, only time will tell. But in the meantime, we can outfit you with any of your workwear requirements, from trousers to hi-vis clothing and definitely at a better price than McCartney’s hand me downs.
