The Met Office have today issued a yellow weather warning for rain which will be in place until tomorrow but could be extended as the weather front makes its way across the country. The band of heavy rain is set to affect parts of Southern Scotland, northern England, north and west Wales. So it would be advisable to have your waterproofs and overtrousers at the ready.

The heaviest of the rain is expected to fall during the night, before easing and clearing away to the south-east during Saturday. This is an upgrade of a warning that was issued yesterday where parts of Northern Ireland were affected and an area from Fife towards the city of Glasgow were taken out as these areas were now expected to miss the worst of the rainfall that is expected to fall. However, these areas would still receive some rain.

Everyone should be aware that there is the potential for some localised travel to be affected because of expected surface water flooding. The expected cold front will be slow-moving which will lead to some areas being affected by heavy and persistent rainfall. Within the warning areas this is expected to result in 25 to 40mm of rainfall coming down everywhere, while a few locations could receive more than 70mm, all of which would be within a few hours. This could lead to localised flooding, despite the recent dry conditions we have experienced.
